Services

Many clients are eligible for rehabilitation services through insurance benefits such as extended health care, worker's compensation, or motor vehicle insurance. As we cannot guarantee any eligibility, extent of your coverage or payment by your insurance plan, you are ultimately responsible for any outstanding balance for service you receive at THE Downtown Sports Clinics.

Extended Health Care

Many clients who attend physical therapy and massage have private insurance through work, a spouse, or own insurance like Blue Cross. When booking an appointment, it is helpful for you to look into your plan to see what is covered and to what extent. Although you do not need a doctor's referral to have physiotherapy, some insurance plans require that you get a referral from a doctor in order to claim your treatments. Upon completing a treatment session, you can use one of the payment options listed (see Payment Options) and receive an official receipt for the service you received. Keep the receipt. You will need to send the receipt and your physiotherapist's credentials (which are listed on their business card), to your insurance company to be reimbursed.

Workers Compensation

When starting physiotherapy, you will also need to be assessed by a medical doctor who is required to complete a WCB report. You will need to complete a workers report and send it to WCB. Your assessment and initial treatment will be covered by WCB, however, further treatments must be approved by WCB. If approved, the cost of your treatment will be billed directly to them. If your claim is not accepted, the fees incurred after the assessment and initial treatment, will be your responsibility for payment. If your claim is not accepted, check your extended health care insurance for reimbursement. (See Extended Health Care, Payment Options)

Motor Vehicle Accidents

Since October 01 2004, the motor vehicle insurance program of Alberta, has allowed for direct billing through section B insurance when the client selects to be treated under the 10 or 21 visit protocol, depending on the injury. If you decide that you do not want to be treated under the protocol, then the fees can be claimed under your extended health care plan. (See Extended Health Care).

Public Funding

At this time, THE Downtown Sports Clinics do not have funding from the Calgary Health Region (CHR). The CHR has limited funding only for patients who have a fracture, are post surgical or, who qualify for low income status (under $16,000 per year).
